Case Study

Case Study: Safety and Traffic Improvements on King Georges Road, NSW

About the Project

The Australian and NSW Governments jointly funded a major infrastructure upgrade along King Georges Road, between Stoney Creek Road, Beverly Hills and Forest Road, Hurstville. This essential corridor was upgraded to improve safety, reduce congestion, and enhance journey times for both motorists and pedestrians.

Scope of Work

The project included:

  • Widening King Georges Road to three lanes in each direction
  • Removing four right-turn movements to streamline traffic flow and reduce conflict points
  • Upgrading pedestrian infrastructure in line with modern safety standards

These improvements delivered long-term benefits for road users in southern Sydney by improving traffic efficiency and travel times.

Safety Infrastructure Supply and Installation

As part of the pedestrian safety enhancements, Guard-R supplied Street-Guard® Type 1 RMS Pedestrian Fencing — a durable barrier system designed to guide pedestrians to designated crossings and prevent unsafe mid-block movements.

The fencing was finished in Heritage Green powder coat, a colour selected to complement the urban environment while maintaining visibility and compliance with Transport for NSW requirements.

Evolution Civil was contracted to complete the installation works, with Guard-R supplying the pedestrian fencing directly to their team. The modular design and robust construction of the fencing enabled fast, efficient installation without compromising safety or quality.

Project Outcomes

  • Improved Pedestrian Safety: The installed fencing successfully directed pedestrian movement, reducing the risk of vehicle interactions.
  • Enhanced Traffic Flow: Additional lanes and the removal of right-turns eased congestion and improved journey times.
  • Efficient Delivery: Guard-R delivered the fencing on time, and Evolution Civil completed the installation within the project’s schedule.
  • Visual Integration: The Heritage Green finish blended seamlessly into the streetscape while ensuring compliance with transport standards.

Conclusion

The upgrade of King Georges Road marked a significant step forward in improving both road safety and traffic efficiency in the region. The successful collaboration between Guard-R and Evolution Civil played a key role in delivering the pedestrian infrastructure component of the project on time and to a high standard.
