A car park guardrail is a vehicle barrier designed to prevent cars and other vehicles from entering pedestrian areas, striking structures or travelling over the edge of an elevated parking deck. Unlike roadside guardrail, car park barriers are designed specifically for the lower-speed impact conditions found in parking facilities, ramps and commercial developments.
A 30 kN Type F barrier is designed for the vehicle impact action specified by AS/NZS 1170.1 for light vehicle traffic areas. Type F areas include parking areas, garages, driveways and ramps restricted to cars and light vehicles not exceeding 2,500 kg gross mass. The impact action acts at 0.5 m above floor level.
The specification should identify the required 30 kN Type F performance, applicable standards, maximum post spacing, mounting arrangement, slab and anchor requirements, corrosion protection and required test or engineering evidence. Avoid specifying only generic terms such as “galvanised guardrail.”
