Type 4 is a decorative pedestrian-fencing configuration within the TfNSW R0800 Fencing Series. It combines the recognised pedestrian-control layout with a more ornate visual treatment than the simpler Type 1 and Type 2 profiles. It is therefore well suited to civic, heritage and high-visibility streetscape projects where the fence needs to complement the surrounding urban design as well as guide pedestrian movement.
The standard Type 4 verge configuration is identified by TfNSW drawing R0800-21 and the median configuration by R0800-22. Specifications should also refer to the relevant general, post, footing, base-plate and embellishment details where applicable. Stating the R0800 drawing reference helps ensure the tendered product matches the intended TfNSW profile rather than a visually similar generic fence.
Types 3, 4 and 5 are separate standard configurations in the R0800 series, with different upper profiles and decorative details. No. Pedestrian fencing is intended to guide and separate pedestrians; it is not a substitute for a road safety barrier designed to contain or redirect an errant vehicle. Where vehicle containment is required, the road designer must select an accepted road safety barrier system and coordinate the pedestrian fence around it. This distinction is important when fencing is located close to high-speed or high-risk traffic environments.
Include the project drawings, approximate linear metres, R0800 type, verge and median quantities, base-plated versus in-ground posts, required finish, project location and delivery programme. If decorative caps or embellishments are shown, include those details as well. A complete enquiry lets the supplier price the actual specified configuration rather than relying on a generic per-metre allowance that may omit posts, finishes or non-standard components.
